Bloodlines & Brushstrokes: A Digital Sanctuary for the Roots 50th Commemoration

Fifty years ago, Alex Haley’s Roots did more than tell a story; it remapped the psychic geography of the Black diaspora. It turned names into echoes and genealogy into a form of resistance. Today, as we prepare for the Exploring Kunta: Roots 50th Commemorative Experience, we find ourselves at the intersection of the past and the possible.

We are proud to announce Bloodlines & Brushstrokes, a virtual art exhibit and auction serving as the visual heartbeat of this landmark commemoration. This collection is more than a display of aesthetic objects—it is a digital sanctuary for works that grapple with the complexities of lineage, memory, and identity.

The Artistic Narrative The works selected for this exhibit mirror the physical journey of the commemorative tour. Just as the tour traces Kunta Kinte’s path from the water’s edge in Annapolis, MD, to the enduring communities of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania, VA, these artists trace the movement of the spirit through history.

Featured Artists We are honored to showcase a profound roster of talent, including: Alexis Janay Arts, Alma Roberts, Ayana Rice, David WM Cassidy, Elisa Mayes, Erasto Curtis Matthews, James Murphy Jr., Jamaal Peterman, Jamil Burton, JaVon Townsend, Jay Durrah, Karen Y. Buster, Katrina, Kibibi Ajanku, Kwaku Ofori-Yirenkyi, Larry Poncho Brown, Levi Robinson, Linda Mose Meadows, Mentwab Easwaran, Nicole Brooks, Rashad Ali Muhammad, Roger James, Russell Lewis, Suzette Royster, Willie Little, and Dr. Yemonja Smalls.

Experience the Exhibit Step into this immersive digital experience and witness the power of history translated through the brushstroke.
