In honor of Black Heritage & Culture Month, Neiman Marcus Tysons Galleria, in partnership with The Black Art Today Foundation, is proud to present “Journey,” a solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Erasto Curtis Matthews. This collection, juried by Dr. Sheila Wright, invites viewers to explore the richness, diversity, and excellence of Black artistry through an abstract lens of cultural reclamation and personal transformation.
Erasto Curtis Matthews utilizes vibrant, abstraction based paintings to celebrate the enduring strength and beauty of African and African-American culture. His work is characterized by a masterful use of acrylics integrated with textile and collage elements, creating layered, emotive worlds that bridge the gap between heritage and imagination.
The pieces featured in “Journey”—including titles such as Creation, Door of No Return, and On Their Shoulders We Climb—serve as visual narratives of the Black experience. They move beyond mere aesthetic, acting as conduits for healing, community building, and the honoring of ancestral legacies.
